Workflow for Setting up your VMware Data Services Manager on vSphere

This topic describes the tasks involved in setting up your VMware Data Services Manager deployment on VMware vSphere.

These deployment tasks are performed by the vSphere administrator in vCenter Server.

Pre-Deployment Tasks

Make sure your environment meets the Hardware and Software Requirements. See Hardware and Software Requirements of VMware Data Services Manager.

Procedure

  1. Deploy the DSM Plugin Using the vSphere Client.

  2. Configure the VMware Data Services Manager in the vSphere Client. Tasks include:

    • Configuring IP pools.
    • Defining a VM class.
    • Configuring user permissions.
    • Creating infrastructure policies.
  3. After the DSM plugin VM is successfully deployed and configured, communicate the following information to the DSM administrator:

    • The VMware Data Services Manager provider VM IP address.
    • The console credentials, Local or LDAP, for this user.
