VMware Skyline™ is a proactive self-service support solution. VMware Skyline automatically and securely collects, aggregates, and analyses product usage data to proactively identify potential issues, security vulnerabilities, impacts on usability, and configuration recommendations. Skyline Log Assist automates the transferring of support bundles to VMware Technical Support Engineers, for the purposes of troubleshooting a Support Request. What's New | April 30th, 2024

Entitlement Accounts

  • VMware Skyline Advisor no longer requires linking of Entitlement Accounts or SaaS Subscriptions. 

  • Users who have Skyline in their Org, but had not linked a qualifying Entitlement Account will no longer be able to fully on-board to Skyline Advisor Pro.

Assigned Entitlements

  • Skyline will no longer check for expiration of Entitlement Accounts or Subscriptions. Any active Skyline user will remain active until further notice.

  • Skyline Advisor Pro no longer displays screens for linking Entitlement Accounts/SaaS Subscriptions to Organizations, Deactivation, or Renewal.

Dashboard Updates

  • Removed details of Entitlement Accounts, Subscriptions, and Account Type Details.

  • Removed Accounts tab from Advisor Settings.

Inventory Updates

  • Skyline now displays End of Technical Guidance (EOTG) / End of General Support (EOGS) information for any product released before April 30, 2024. Any products released after this date will display "-" only.

Log Assist Enhancements

  • Log assist has integrated with Broadcom Support systems. After the migration, you must log in using the same username as your Broadcom Account ID to ensure that open support cases are displayed when using Log Assist.

  • You can only view support cases that you have opened.

  • A new column Party Name has been added to the Support Request table.

  • Support Requests (SRs) Visibility for Skyline Administrators is no longer supported.

What's New | April 1st, 2024

VMware Select Support

  • Effective immediately, Skyline now supports VMware Select Support. This replaces VMware Success 360 (S360) Support, which reached the End of Sale (EOS) in May 2023. As with S360 Support, Select Support provides access to Insights Reports, providing insights into the health and performance of your VMware infrastructure. We highly recommend linking your Select Support Entitlement Account to your CSP organization as soon as possible to ensure seamless access to Skyline’s proactive support and Insight Reports.

VMware Skyline Advisor Pro Availability

  • Activation of new Skyline Advisor Pro services in new or existing CSP organizations is no longer supported. However, Skyline Advisor Pro will be available and fully functional for existing users.

Active Skyline Organizations

  • Active Skyline Advisor Pro organizations are automatically upgraded to Select Support level in Skyline and have access to Insights Reports.

Inactive Skyline Organizations

  • Skyline Advisor Pro organizations in an inactive state will be removed from the service.

Organizations in Limited Mode

  • Skyline Advisor Pro organizations in Limited Mode are automatically renewed to Skyline at Select Support level experience to ensure full access.

Technical Adoption Manager (TAM) Engagement

  • As TAM users, you now have complete control over enabling TAM reports. Once you opt in, no further action is required. The assigned TAM will have access to perform the required duties as needed.

Secure Connect Gateway 5.0 Integration

  • The integration flow for Secure Connect Gateway 5.0 in VMware Skyline Advisor Pro is no longer supported.

Upgrading to VMware Skyline Advisor Pro

  • It’s time to move to Skyline Advisor Pro! This release introduces a guided experience, a streamlined process designed to help you efficiently meet service requirements and ensure optimal performance.

  • When you upgrade to Skyline Advisor Pro, some Collectors might not be compatible with the current service, and you need to deregister those Collectors. If a collector reaches End of Life (EOL) or falls into an unknown state, you can easily deregister it directly from the Collector Health section. The Deregister option will be readily visible for Collectors that are either inactive, in an unknown state, or running on a version below 3.0.

  • To maintain optimal service performance, Skyline Advisor Pro will now automatically deregister Collectors monthly if they are in an unknown state. This proactive approach ensures that only healthy, active Collectors remain in the service. Collectors that are inactive for over 13 months enter an unknown state.

VMware Skyline Collector

  • Collectors operating on versions below 3.0 are now End of Life (EOL) and incompatible with the current service.

VMware Aria (SaaS) Integration

  • The integration flow for VMware Aria (SaaS) in VMware Advisor Pro is no longer supported.

Inventory Export Reports

As a Skyline administrator, you have the capability to create and download Inventory Export Reports, providing you with the following benefits:

  • Understanding your current deployment through Skyline Advisor Pro

  • Obtaining specific configuration details about deployed products to optimize deployments

  • Identifying and eliminating unused or underutilized VMware products improves deployment efficiency.

  • Storing extracted reports in one place for easier retrieval of historical snapshots

To access Inventory Export Reports, go to Dashboard > Insights Reports > Inventory Export Reports. For more information, see Inventory Export Reports.

Note: If you have a Technical Adoption Manager, your TAM will have the ability to use the data to advise you on preparing for future growth or any other optimization conversations.

Advanced Diagnostic Findings

You can now view Diagnostic Findings in Skyline Advisor Pro, based on VMware Aria Operations for Logs queries. Proactive Findings alert you of potential issues in your environment before they arise. Diagnostic findings are based on log data that informs you about exisiting issue in your environment.

As a Skyline Administrator, you can now activate or deactivate the Diagnostics Findings feature from the Settings > Advanced tab in Skyline Advisor Pro. The Diagnostics Findings is turned off by default. Toggle the switch to the left to deactivate the Diagnostics Findings for all users.

To activate diagnostic findings, you must add VMware Aria Operations for Logs endpoint to Skyline Collector.

Findings and Recommendations Enhancement

On the Findings and Recommendations page, you can now view active diagnostic findings discovered through log analytics leveraging VMware Aria Operations for Logs.

Automated Endpoint Discovery Support for VMware vSphere endpoints

VMware Skyline Advisor Pro enables you to detect VMware vSphere and VMware Aria Operations endpoints which are discovered through VMware Aria Operations for Logs.

The Inventory Summary card on the dashboard displays the Add Endpoint collapsible slider. To configure the endpoints, click Add next to vCenter. Once connected to the new endpoints, you’ll see them reflected in your Inventory in 4 hours or less. For more information, see Endpoint Discovery in the user guide.

SaaS Subscriptions Support

As a Skyline user, you can access Skyline if you have an active SaaS Subscription, including vSphere+, vSAN+, and VCF+.  Currently, the Production Support level is assigned to all active SaaS subscriptions.

  • When both an Entitlement Account and a SaaS Subscription are present, Skyline access is based on the highest Entitlement Account level.

  • To access Skyline, at least one Entitlement Account or SaaS subscription needs to be active or linked.

  • A grace period of 60 days is activated after the last Entitlement Account or SaaS subscription expires. During this time, you can assign an active Entitlement Account or new SaaS subscription to continue Skyline operations. Otherwise, the service will enter a deactivated state.

Skyline Advisor Pro Settings Enhancements

As a Skyline Advisor Pro administrator, you can activate your Subscription, including vSphere+, vSAN+, and VCF+ from Advisor Pro Settings page. On the Settings page, the Accounts tab shows the list of Entitlement Accounts and SaaS Subscriptions.

Skyline Advisor Pro Dashboard Enhancements

On the Skyline Advisor Pro Dashboard, you can view information about your current Entitlement Accounts and SaaS Subscriptions.

As a Skyline administrator, you can click the settings icon to view and link your Entitlement Account and SaaS Subscription to the VMware Cloud Service Organization. If there are no active EA or SaaS subscription, click Add to activate.

Log Assist Enhancements

On the Log Assist page, you can see your Support Requests (SRs) and whether they are associated with an Entitlement Account or a SaaS subscription. SaaS Subscriptions are displayed under the Entitlement/Organization ID column. SRs associated with an EA has a numeric ID, while SRs associated with a SaaS Subscription has an alphanumeric ID.

Support Request Visibility   

Support Requests(SRs) Visibility for Skyline Administrators is currently unavailable for Subscriptions, including vSphere+, vSAN+, and VCF+ SRs. Skyline users can continue to see the SRs created by themselves for SaaS Subscriptions.

Automated Endpoint Discovery Support for VMware Aria Operations for Logs

The automated endpoint discovery detects and recommends configuring VMware Aria Operations for Logs endpoints in your environment that are not already configured. This enables you to easily add your endpoints and benefit from Skyline proactive Findings and Recommendations to avoid issues.

The Inventory Summary card on the Dashboard displays the Add Endpoint collapsible slider. Product Name Updates

VMware rebranded all vRealize products to “Aria” in late 2022. This Skyline release reflects the new Aria product names to align with the updated branding. The vRealize product names have changed to Aria throughout the Skyline UI.

VMware Aria Operations for Logs (formerly vRealize Log Insight) Support

With the release of Skyline Collector 3.3, Skyline supports VMware Aria Operations for Logs (formerly vRealize Log Insight).

The following VMware Aria Operations for Logs features are available within Skyline Advisor Pro:

  • VMware Aria Operations for Logs inventory details.

  • VMware Aria Operations for Logs Findings and Recommendations. 

  • Transfer support bundles for VMware Aria Operations for Logs using Skyline Log Assist.

Note: Prior to vRealize Log Insight version 8.8.2, Skyline is unable to identify the Primary node. You can determine the Primary node using the vRealize Log Insight UI.

Dashboard Enhancements

The Inventory Summary within the Dashboard view now displays the VMware Aria Operations for Logs details.

Inventory Enhancements

The Inventory now includes inventory details for VMware Aria Operations for Logs. You can view the name, version, build, products linked, solutions, and integration.

Log Assist Enhancements

  • As a Skyline Administrator, you can now activate or deactivate the Log Assist automated support log bundle upload feature from the Advanced Settings tab in Skyline Advisor Pro. The Log Assist feature is turned on by default. Toggle the switch to the left to deactivate the Log Assist for all users within the Skyline Advisor Settings page. Support Request is deactivated for all the users if Log Assist toggle is off. You see a message on the Dashboard Log Assist widget that Log Assist has been deactivated.

  • With Skyline Collector 3.3, you can now use Log Assist Advanced Configuration options when uploading Log Bundles. Log Assist customizations are only available for vCenter, ESXi, and NSX-T.

Authorized Service Provider Entitlement

As a VMware customer with an Authorized Service Provider (ASP) entitlement, you can now successfully register and onboard to the VMware Skyline service. When your ASP entitlement is mapped to your Skyline organization, all of the features available to you as a Skyline Advisor user are the same as those available to the Production entitled user on the Skyline service.

Hyperscaler Provider Production Support Entitlement

As a VMware customer with a Hyperscaler Provider Production Support (HPPS) entitlement, you can now successfully register and onboard to the VMware Skyline service. When your HPPS entitlement is mapped to your Skyline organization, all of the features available to you as a Skyline Advisor user are the same as those available to the Production entitled user on the Skyline service.

Restore Deactivated Skyline Advisor Service

  • As a Skyline Advisor Administrator, you can now Link/Unlink Entitlement Accounts within Skyline Advisor that is in the deactivated state.

  • As a Skyline Advisor Administrator, you can add or remove other Skyline Users within Cloud Service Organization for Skyline Advisor in deactivated state.

vRealize Cloud Universal Onboarding

With this release, you can activate your vRealize Cloud Universal Subscriptions with VMware Skyline Advisor Pro. VMware Skyline Advisor Pro automates the discovery process for your VMware vRealize Cloud Universal Subscription products, including vRealize Operations, vRealize Automation, and vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager. VMware Skyline Advisor Pro helps you onboard and activate vRealize product licenses by providing the necessary information to vRealize Cloud Subscription Manager Service.

To onboard and activate your vRealize Cloud Universal Subscriptions, click Get Started in the Notifications card. For more information, see Onboarding and Activating vRealize Cloud Universal Subscription in the user guide.

Operational Summary Reports (OSR)

OSRs are no longer available and have been replaced by the VMware Success 360 Insights Reports. The Insights Reports contain similar summary data to the OSRs, as well as more in-depth details and actionable information.

Skyline Advisor Pro - Accelerated Delivery of Email Notifications

As a Skyline Advisor Pro user, if you have subscribed to the email notifications of critical Findings, you will now receive email notifications within 24 hours of new critical Findings detected vs. 48 hours in previous versions.

Skyline Advisor Pro - Main Dashboard Enhancements

You can now click Active Findings, Findings Type, Findings Category, Support Requests, and Active Log Assists to access the detailed views of each section directly from the main Dashboard. 

  • To access the Findings and Recommendations page from the main Dashboard:

    • Click the Active Findings, including Critical, Moderate, and Trivial Findings links.

    • Click any of the Findings Category (Network, Storage, Security, Compute, End User Compute, and Management) links under Findings Breakdown.

    • Click Configuration, Troubleshooting, or Upgrade Findings Type links under Findings Breakdown.

  • To access the Inventory Details page, click the total number of all inventory assets under the Inventory Summary section. Hosts and Virtual Machines are not clickable.

  • To access the Support Request Details and Log Library pages, click the total number of Support Requests and Active Log Assists.

Self-Service Reports For VMware Success 360 Users

As a VMware Success 360 or Premier Services user, you now have access to self-service Proactive Insights Reports.  You can now create Insights Report to self-serve the reports at any given time and share them with your org. 

You can Opt-In / Opt-Out to email notifications from the VMware Success 360 Insights Report. Toggle on the New S360 Insights Report Availability option in the Skyline Advisor Pro settings to enable this functionality. 

You can also apply filters to different kinds of reports in the report library to access the desired report quickly without skimming through various reports. 

VMware Success 360 Insights Report

Premier Services customers are now able to create and consume VMware Success 360 Insights Standard and Custom Reports. VMware Success 360 Proactive Insights Reports will replace the current Operational Summary Report (OSR) moving forward for Premier Services Customers. Any Advisor Pro users within the Org will be able to create the reports (no longer restricted to EA association).

If you upgrade from Premier Services to VMware Success 360, you can access the Insights Reports using self-service or as custom reports delivered by your VMware Success team.

Operational Summary Report (OSR) Retiring  

OSR Creation has been retired in this release. No new reports will be created and scheduling has been stopped.  Historical reports will continue to be available through mid-October in the OSR Library.

TAM Insights Reports Powered by Skyline   

If you’re a TAM customer, you’ve likely enabled the new TAM Insights Reports feature, which facilitates easier and more streamlined access to Health Check reports created by your TAM. We recently released a new version of Skyline which provides additional features and enhancements to make it even easier and adds more flexibility to the report creation process your TAM uses to develop the reports. A couple of features that you may experience first-hand are as follows: 

  • Recalled Health Check Report Experience 

    • Health Check reports can now be recalled by your TAM to make any necessary changes  

    • Health Check reports can also be retired by your TAM by recalling the report and letting it expire after 30 days 

  • Rename Health Check Report Experience 

    • Health Check reports can now be renamed by your TAM

TAM Insights Reports Powered by Skyline  

Technical Account Manager (TAM) Health Check Reports are now powered by Skyline, enabling TAMs to gather environmental data automatically. This translates into numerous benefits for customers: 

  • Time savings: no need for manual data collection or multiple tools as the process is automated and consolidated by Skyline Advisor Pro. The Health Check Report can be delivered on a pre-determined schedule. 

  • Integrated reporting: TAM delivers Health Check reports in Skyline Advisor Pro for a single source of truth.  

  • Holistic View:  Health Check Reports provide visibility across VMware teams for proactive issue avoidance. 

Log Assist Support for SDDC Manager

Skyline Log Assist now supports SDDC Manager. Log Assist streamlines support log bundle upload for associated Support Requests by automating the process. In 2020 Log Assist saved customers 90,000 hours vs. manual upload. With this new functionality, you now can streamline log collection for SDDC Manager with Log Assist. If you open a Support Request for an issue with VMware Cloud Foundation, VMware Technical Support Engineers can initiate log collection via Log Assist, helping speed time to resolution. 

Enhanced Support Request Visibility   

Skyline Administrators now have visibility into all the open Support Requests associated with their profile linked Entitlement Accounts, providing more visibility and enhanced ability to manage their Skyline Accounts. 

Secure Connect Gateway  

The feature formerly known as Dell SAE is now Secure Connect Gateway.

The following prerequisites must be met to connect Secure Connect Gateway with VMware Skyline:

  • Secure Connect Gateway 5.0.

  • Added the vCenter Server visible within Skyline Advisor to Secure Connect Gateway.

Skyline Insights APIs

With the release of VMware Skyline Advisor Pro, the Skyline Insights API is made available. Skyline Insights APIs provide and maintain a set of Public APIs for the users to consume Skyline Findings and manage their infrastructures more efficiently.Please ensure you have done the following prior to using API Explorer:

The Skyline Insights API allows you to access and remediates Skyline Findings efficiently and implement automation via REST APIs.  You can view Skyline Findings outside of Skyline Advisor and automate remediation processes by integrating Skyline Findings with your tools and workflows. Skyline Insights API is available to Skyline Advisor Pro users only.

To access  Insights API, perform the following:

  • Click the Insights APIs tab within Skyline Advisor Pro Dashboard.

  • Click the VIEW API DOCUMENTATION  tab to access the documentation.

  • Click the VIEW API EXPLORER tab to open the API explorer.

Skyline Advisor Pro

Starting with the Skyline Advisor November 2021 release, Skyline Advisor Pro is introduced.

Skyline Advisor Pro enables you to receive proactive intelligence with new insights, accelerated analysis, and simplified design. Skyline Advisor Pro adds new features while retaining Skyline Advisor's existing functionality. It is faster, smarter, and easier than Skyline Advisor. Similar to Advisor, Advisor Pro is available to all customers with Production or Premier Support, VMware Success 360, and vRealize Cloud Universal subscriptions at no additional charge.

To activate Skyline Advisor Pro, make sure you have auto-upgrade functionality enabled or manually upgrade to Skyline Collector 3.0 on all collectors.

Skyline Advisor Pro Features and Capabilities 

Advisor Pro Dashboard

As a Skyline Advisor Pro user, you can interact with a new modernized Dashboard with enhanced features.

Dashboard Features:

Account & User Info: Displays User Name, Organization Name, Account Id, Entitlement Accounts, and Account Types.

Findings card: The Findings card displays the last analysis date-time stamp, a number of Active Findings, Findings breakdown based on type and category,  affected and remediated object count based on the last 7 days of data at any given point.

Skyline Advisor Pro Historical Trends

Skyline Advisor Pro supports the Historical Trends for Findings and Remediations within VMware Skyline. It displays trend information based upon the number of findings, and affected objects, within your environment. Furthermore, the number of findings, objects, remediated is displayed. As a Skyline Advisor Pro user, you can see an aggregated count of the following:

  • Products that are in an Unhealthy state

  • Products that switched to a Healthy state

  • Existing Affected Objects

  • New Affected Objects

  • Remediated Objects

  • Events

You can filter the findings by inventory, severity, category, hidden findings, and date range. When you hover over the bars, a tooltip with detailed object metrics will appear. When you click the bar, the graph card expands and the Datagrid of findings for that bar appears below. 

The Findings card on the Skyline Advisor Pro Dashboard has the VIEW HISTORICAL TRENDS link which redirects to the Historical Trends Information page under Findings and Recommendations.

Notifications card: Displays the EoGS / EoTG and Collector Health Notifications. The VIEW ALL link opens a page that displays the notifications as a list including all notifications on EoGS / EoTG plus Collector Health.

Collectors Card: Displays the total collector count along with the breakdown of collectors per the collector statuses. The VIEW ALL link redirects you to the Collector Health Overview (Collector Details) page.

Inventory Summary card: Displays last analysis date-time stamp, inventory type, and count for each supported product. Also displays 0 when there are no product types added to the Skyline Collector. The VIEW ALL link redirects to the Inventory Tab within Advisor Pro.

Log Assist card: Displays the following support requests:

  • Open Support Requests: Shows a total count of open Support Requests for this user + Org + EA association (existing SR Visibility logic). The View All link next to Support Requests redirects to the Support Requests Details page.

  • Active Log Assists: Displays In-Progress and Requested Log Requests that are applicable for the current user + Account (existing data retention and viewing policy).

The VIEW ALL link next to Log Requests redirects to the Log Library page within Advisor Pro.

Operational Overview card: Displays the existing charts of - Cluster Configuration, Host Configuration, and VM Configuration per the existing logic and functionality. The VIEW ALL link redirects to the Operational Overview page.

Skyline Advisor Pro Inventory Enhancements

The inventory page displays additional details on top of the existing data and functionalities associated with the Inventory tab today.  The Object details for supported objects are displayed in the expandable view along with all links/data points. It displays the following:

  • Object Details, Products Linked, Solutions, and Integrations.

  • The Support Lifecycle Phase displays the current product lifecycle phase and product end phase.

  • Findings related to information for specific Inventory objects display the count of all Findings that affect these objects with a breakdown based on severity - Critical, Moderate, and Trivial.

The VIEW FINDINGS link redirects users to the Active Findings page.

Skyline Advisor Pro Settings

You can use the Light and Dark theme toggle to move around between the thematic view you prefer.  Click the toggle option next to the Settings on the top to switch between Light and Dark themes.

EoGS / EoTG for Products 

This feature enables you to view the product lifecycle statuses for all your VMware products. You can plan upgrades ahead of time and ensure the continuity of support for the purchased products. The Notification card on the Skyline Advisor Pro Dashboard displays notifications about products nearing the end of their support phases that are 90 days prior to EoGS/EoTG.

The Inventory tab displays the information about the current support phase and the date of EoGS/EoTG.

  1. Shows an informative warning message alongside the objects on the Inventory Page when a product version is set to reach End of General Support.

  2. Shows an informative critical warning message alongside the objects on the Inventory Pag when a product version is set to reach End of Technical Guidance.

  3. Shows an informative warning message on the Product Details Page object lists when a product version is set to reach End of General Support.

Accelerated Analysis

Skyline Advisor Pro provides accelerated analysis which identifies issues, remediation updates, and inventory changes more quickly. Unlike its predecessor, which took up to 48 hours to surface issues, Advisor Pro can surface issues and inventory changes within 6 hours, giving you more time to act on its findings and recommendations and greater confidence that your environment is up to date. 

Skyline Insights Report for Success 360

Skyline Advisor Pro users with S360 entitlements can access the Skyline Advisor Pro Insights Report page through the S360 Proactive Support Service Team. The Skyline Insights Report summarizes outstanding wellness assessments of systems with active findings, the system that needs an upgrade for vCenter connected products, and health check actions. It is not a self-service feature for S360 customers; instead, it is a service wrapper within Skyline Advisor Pro made available to customers via SPSS (S360 Proactive Support & Services Team).

The Insights Report Landing Page has the following attributes:

  1. Retention - The user can search reports from the past 6 months.

  2. Views - The landing page has two views i.e Grid view and List view, the default is Grid View.

The Skyline Advisor Pro Insights Report page provides you with the following information: 

  • Insights Report Name

  • The Insights Report created date

  • The Insights Report type, either standard or custom

  • Graph or Chart representation of the number of Active Findings based on Resolution type.

  • Graph or Chart representation of the number of Active Findings categorized by Security, Compute, Storage, Network, and Operation Management.

  • Collector Health and Endpoints (vCenters, NSX (products)) with critical findings.

  • A short, readable executive summary of the environment.  The Executive Summary report is a view-only option for Customers.

  • Proactive Remediation

    • The total number of Findings resolved over the specified time period.

    • Findings chart that represents Findings Resolved Upon Upgrade, Findings Resolved Upon Configuration Changes, and Findings Resolved Based On Category.

    • A graph depicting the total number of Affected objects versus the number of Affected objects that have been resolved.

    • Remediation Trends - a bar graph that shows the number of Findings that have been resolved month after month or over the specified time period. It should also show the change (up or down arrow) in the number of Findings resolved from the previous month.

    • Outstanding Critical Findings - Total number of critical findings that have not been resolved over a period of 30 days

Skyline Insights Report includes the following features and capabilities:

  • The ability to click the interactive charts Findings in the Skyline Insights Report.  

  • The ability to share the Skyline Insights Report with members of your organization, so that team members can check Skyline Advisor Pro for the most up-to-date status on Findings on a regular basis.

  • The ability to download the reports as PDF or CSV formats and share Skyline Insights reports.

  • The ability to add, edit, and delete comments to different sections of the Skyline Insights Report.

  • The ability to filter available Insights Reports by report type (standard/custom) and date created.

  • The ability to export individual Finding details in the Proactive Remediation Findings table view.

Collector Upgrades Email Notification

 As a Skyline Administrator, you can configure the email settings to receive emails when your Collector requires an upgrade. To take advantage of the most recent features and enhancements, you must upgrade your Collectors.

This email notification is turned "ON" by default. Once you upgrade your Collector to the latest version, toggle the switch to the left to disable email notifications within the Skyline Advisor Settings page.

Enhanced Skyline Email Notification Preferences

We have categorized the Email Notification Preferences into two groups: General Notifications and Skyline Collector Notifications. Clicking on Skyline Collector Notifications now displays the health status and the password expiry notifications of your collectors.

The Skyline Advisor user can specify their email notification preferences within the Skyline Advisor Settings page.

Collector Health Status

As a Skyline administrator, you will receive an email notification after 24hrs if there is an issue with your Collector communication or if your Collector health status changes to an unhealthy state. If there are multiple collectors, you will receive a single consolidated email. 

This email notification is mandatory as it directly affects the health of your Skyline environment. To keep your environment safe and healthy, you must restore your Collectors to a Healthy status so Skyline can resume providing proactive intelligence.

vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager Support

With the release of Skyline Collector 2.8, Skyline supports vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.2, and later.

The following vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager features are available in Skyline Advisor:

  • vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager inventory details, which display only the hierarchy of vRealize Automation instances.

  • No findings and recommendations.

  • Log Assist is not supported.

vRealize Automation Support

With the release of Skyline Collector 2.8, Skyline supports vRealize Automation 8.1, and later.

The following vRealize Automation features are available within Skyline Advisor:

  • vRealize Automation inventory details.

  • vRealize Automation Findings and Recommendations. See the New Findings and Recommendations section.

  • Log Assist is supported for vRealize Automation Instances only and not for supported for Independent vRealize Automation Organizations. To enable Log Assist for vRealize Automation Instances, you must connect the parent vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager to the Collector.

  • To take full advantage of Skyline integration with vRealize Automation, including the access to proactive Findings and the ability to use Log Assist, add vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager to the Collector. 

Dashboard Enhancements

The Inventory Summary within the Dashboard view now displays the vRealize Automation details.

Inventory Enhancements

The Inventory now includes inventory details for vRealize Automation and vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager. You can view the name, version, products linked, and status of deployed vRealize Automation Instances with their associated vRealize Automation Organizations in vRealize Automation. 

The status column has three values: Configured, Not Configured, and Independent.

  • Configured: Displays the status as Configured for vRealize Automation Organizations that have both a vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager and a vRealize Automation Organization connected to the Collector.

  • Not Configured: Displays the status as Not Configured for vRealize Automation Organizations for which the vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager is connected to the Collector but the specific vRealize Automation Organization is not.

  • Independent: Displays the status as Independent for entries where vRealize Automation Organizations are connected to Skyline Collector but the associated parent vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager is not connected.

For vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager, you can view the name and version of vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager and the associated vRealize Automation instances. 

The order of the products listed in the side panel has been enhanced to keep all vRealize products together.

Filter Enhancements

A new category called Management is now available in the Filters section of the Active Findings tab. This category has replaced the previous Operations Management category. The Management category includes both vRealize Automation and vRealize Operations rules.

The Inventory option in the Filter panel now displays the vRealize Automation instances with their associated vRealize Automation Organizations hierarchy inventory objects.

Upgrade Recommendations

vRealize Automation is now available under the upgrade sequence based on the vCenter's version.

ReValidation Analysis

After performing a ReValidation of privileges and connectivity for the products added to the Skyline Collector(s) registered with your Cloud Services Organization, analysis of the revalidation is now available, and displayed. Customers can view the revalidation analysis by clicking on View Details on Step 2 of the Initiate Log Transfer process.

The ReValidation Analysis details the following:

  • Object - The Friendly Name of the Skyline Collector where there are missing privileges, or a connectivity issue, for a product, or products, added to that Skyline Collector.

  • Status - The missing privileges, or connectivity check results.

Inventory Products Linked Update

We have updated how Products Linked to an object are displayed on the Inventory page. A down arrow is now displayed next to the product linked. Clicking the down arrow will display all products linked with the associated object. The down arrow replaces the previous informational icon for displaying products linked.

Findings Catalog

The new findings catalog provides you with increased visibility into all the at risk issues and vulnerabilities that Skyline checks. Reviewing the findings catalog enables you to determine whether there is a finding available in Skyline for a potential issue, security vulnerability, or configuration recommendation. We actively grow the catalog of findings to the surface issues that can be addressed proactively.  View the active findings page to see if you are impacted by a specific finding in your environment.

Improved Support Request Visibility

This feature provides Skyline administrators with visibility of support requests across teams, making it easier to leverage log assist in your organization. Toggle on the View Support Requests Raised by Team Members option in the Skyline Advisor settings to enable this functionality.

In order to view Support Requests Raised by Team Members, the following conditions must be true:

  • You must be a Skyline Administrator within Skyline Advisor.

  • The Entitlement Account where the Support Request was opened must be linked to your Cloud Services Organization within Skyline Advisor. Skyline Administrators can link, and unlink, Entitlement Accounts under the Settings > Advanced menu in Skyline Advisor.

  • You must be associated with the Entitlement Account where the Support Request was opened. You cannot view Support Requests Raised by Team Members opened under Entitlement Accounts that you are not associated with. You can review the Entitlement Accounts that you are associated with using the My VMware customer portal.

Operational Overview Dashboard

The Operational Overview dashboard displays a summary of products added to Skyline, along with Cluster Configuration, Host Configuration, and VM Configuration charts.

The Environment Summary displays the number of products, and product objects, currently being analyzed by Skyline. Any product, and its associated objects, will be counted within the Environment Summary if they have been added to a Skyline Collector registered with your Cloud Services Organization.

The Cluster Configuration dashboard provides a quick overview of your vSphere cluster configurations.

The Host Configuration dashboard provides an overview of your ESXi host configurations and displays inconsistencies so that you can take corrective action.

The Virtual Machine Configuration dashboard provides an overview of virtual machine configuration in your environment.

Note:

  • The charts within the Cluster Configuration, Host Configurations, and Virtual Machine Configuration panels are derived from product usage data collected by the Skyline Collector. If you are using both Skyline Advisor, and vRealize Operations / vRealize Operations Cloud, the information contained with these charts may be different within each application, as the data used to populate these charts is collected from different sources, and analyzed at different time periods.

  • The total count of virtual machines displayed within Skyline Advisor, when clicking on a vCenter Server, or Datacenter object, will differ from the Guest OS distribution total count. The Guest OS distribution chart is calculated based upon the number of virtual machines that have VMware Tools installed. If the virtual machine does not have VMware Tools installed, then that virtual machine's Guest OS is not included in the Guest OS chart within Skyline Advisor.

  • The total count of virtual machines displayed within Skyline Advisor, when clicking on a vCenter Server, or Datacenter object, may be different than the total count of virtual machines displayed within vRealize Operations Cloud. Skyline counts all virtual machines, including templates, to determine the total virtual machine count. vRealize Operations Cloud counts all virtual machines, not including templates, to determine the total virtual machine count.

  • The total count of virtual machines displayed within Skyline Advisor, when clicking on a vCenter Server, or Datacenter object, may be different than the total count of virtual machines displayed within vRealize Operations Cloud. If a customer has not added a vCenter Server to either Skyline, or vRealize Operations Cloud, then the virtual machines for that vCenter Server will not be included within the total virtual of virtual machines. We recommend adding a vCenter Server to both Skyline, and vRealize Operations Cloud, when possible.

Skyline now provides the capability to launch vRealize Operations Cloud, in context from Skyline Advisor. To enable this functionality, customers must subscribe to vRealize Operations Cloud within the same Cloud Services Organization that Skyline Advisor is available as a service.

The following will launch vRealize Operations Cloud in context, from Skyline Advisor:

  • Clicking Launch Cluster Configuration in Skyline Advisor opens the vRealize Operations Cloud Cluster Configuration dashboard.

  • Clicking Launch Host Configuration in Skyline Advisor opens the vRealize Operations Cloud Host Configuration dashboard.

  • Clicking Launch Virtual Machine Configuration in Skyline Advisor opens the vRealize Operations Cloud Virtual Machine Configuration dashboard.

  • Within select Troubleshooting-based Skyline Findings, you can Launch the vRealize Operations Cloud Troubleshooting Workbench to perform advanced troubleshooting tasks.

VMware Cloud Foundation Support

With the release of Skyline Collector version 2.6, Skyline now supports VMware Cloud Foundation. The following VMware Cloud Foundation features and functionality are available within Skyline Advisor:

  • VMware Cloud Foundation inventory details, including identification of both management and workload domains.

  • Findings and Recommendations specific to VMware Cloud Foundation. Now, instead of recommending upgrading a component of VMware Cloud Foundation, such as a vCenter Server, the Skyline recommendation is to upgrade VMware Cloud Foundation.

Limitations

  • Skyline supports VMware Cloud Foundation version 4.1, and above.

  • Skyline does not support the transferring of SDDC Manager support bundles with Skyline Log Assist.

New Get Started Process

We are introducing a new process for customers who are just getting started with VMware Skyline, and VMware Cloud Services. The new Get Started Process has the following benefits:

  • Creating a Cloud Services Organization now only requires an Organization Name. An address, and tax id, are no longer required.

  • Customers can now choose which Entitlement Account(s) to associate with their Cloud Services Organization. Previously, Entitlement Accounts were automatically associated with the Cloud Services Organization. See VMware KB Article 79286 for additional details regarding the importance of linking, or unlinking, Entitlement Accounts to your Cloud Services Organization.

  • The number of steps for downloading, installing, and registering the Skyline Collector has been reduced.

Entitlement Account (EA) Linking Capability

Customers can now manage Entitlement Accounts (EA) associated with their Cloud Services Organizations. The EA represents your support entitlement level (Production, Premier) and allows you Support Requests opened under the EA within Skyline Advisor. With this feature, customers can choose which EAs to associate with their Cloud Services Organization and can add or remove existing EAs using the Link/Unlink functionality. This linking feature offers increased flexibility in EA to Cloud Services Organization mapping.

To access the Entitlement Account (EA) feature, click on Settings within Skyline Advisor.

The Entitlement Account (EA) feature is only available to users with the Skyline Administrator service role. The Entitlement Accounts (EA) feature will not be visible to any user who has been granted the Skyline User service role.

Role-Based Access Control

There are two new user roles available for the Skyline Advisor service, Skyline Administrator and Skyline User. The Skyline Administrator service role has full privileges within Skyline Advisor. The Skyline User service role does not have permission to complete the following tasks within Skyline Advisor:

  • Add a Skyline Collector to the Cloud Services Organization.

  • DeRegister a Skyline Collector to the Cloud Services Organization.

  • Receive email notification when Skyline Collector root password is nearing expiration.

  • Opt-In / Opt-Out to sharing data related to Service Intelligence through the Secure Connect Gateway 5.0.

All users with existing access to Skyline Advisor will be granted the Skyline Administrator service role privilege. Use VMware Cloud Services Console to edit user service role access.

The Skyline Administrator and Skyline User service roles replace the previous roles of 'admin role' and 'admin user'.

Finding First Observed Date

Every Finding within Skyline Advisor will now display a First Observed date. The date that the Finding was first observed within Skyline Advisor will now populate the First Observed field. Additionally, within each Finding, the First Observed field will appear within the Affected Objects table, for when the Finding was first observed for each Affected Object in the Finding.

Improvements to Upgrade Recommendations and Product Interoperability Checks

An Issues Detected warning will now be displayed for the upgrade recommendation if one or more products are not interoperable with the version/build recommended. The Issues Detected warning will be displayed within the Interoperability Issues column. Additionally, the recommended version and build for an upgrade recommendation have been updated to provide a more consistent experience.

Enhanced Security Policy

Explicit Skyline Advisor service role grant access is now required. Customer Cloud Services Organization Owners must grant users specific access to the Skyline Advisor service role. To do this, customers must log in to their Cloud Services Organization, and use the Identity & Access Management feature of Cloud Services to grant users specific access to the Skyline Advisor service role. See the Identity & Access Management documentation for how to control user access to your organization, resources, and services.

Integrate VMware Skyline with Dell EMC SupportAssist for Enterprise Systems

Customers can now integrate Dell EMC SupportAssist for Enterprise with VMware Skyline, to enable a best-in-class proactive support experience for customers utilizing Dell Hardware for their VMware products and solutions. Customers can Opt-In using the new Integrations tab within Skyline Advisor.

Important: The Integrations tab in Skyline Advisor will ONLY appear if you are utilizing Dell EMC hardware as the platform for your VMware vSphere environment. If you are not utilizing Dell EMC hardware, the Integrations tab will NOT appear.

Note: The Dell EMC SupportAssist for Enterprise Systems Integration with Skyline is only available to Dell EMC PowerEdge server hardware 12G and above. This integration is not available to older versions of Dell EMC PowerEdge server hardware.

Note: Dell EMC SupportAssist for Enterprise Systems v4.0.5 is required to enable this integration.

Transfer Support Log Bundles for Horizon Connection Servers

Customers can now upload Horizon Connection Server support log bundles to VMware Global Support Services (GSS) using Skyline Log Assist. Horizon Connection Servers added to a Skyline Collector can now be chosen within the Select Inventory step of Initiate Log Transfer.

Note: Skyline Collector v2.3, and Horizon 7 v7.10, is required to enable the transferring of Horizon Connection Server support log bundles using Skyline Log Assist. See KB Article 59661 for the required permissions to enable remote support log bundle collection for Horizon Connection Server.

Collector Health

Now available is a new Collector Health page. This page replaces the previous Collector Details page within Skyline Advisor. Clicking on Show Collector Details now displays the health of all Skyline Collectors registered with your Cloud Services Organization. Furthermore, each configured product health is also displayed.

Note that the Data Collection state and Product Configuration state are separate, even though the Product Configuration state is a sub-component of each Skyline Collector. For example, a Skyline Collector Product Configuration state, located to the right of the Skyline Collector name and version within the Collector Health page may state Healthy, while a Product Configuration state is Communication Issues or Insufficient Privileges.

Federated Identity Management

Skyline Advisor now supports federated identity management. You can now use your corporate domain account to access Skyline Advisor, within VMware Cloud Services. To set up federated identity management, please see the Setting Up Federated Identity Management documentation. After completing the setup of federated identity management, ensure to add applicable Skyline service roles to each corporate domain user. These roles include Skyline Advisor, and Skyline Collector.

Data Analysis Message Upon First Login

When customers log into Advisor after installing their first Skyline Collector, they will see an alert message informing them that data analysis is in progress and they will begin seeing proactive Findings & Recommendations within 48-52 hours.

Initial Analysis Period

After installing, configuring, and registering your Skyline Collector, customers are now notified that an initial analysis period of 48 hours is required before environment details, proactive findings and recommendations, and Log Assist will be available within Skyline Advisor.

Last Analysis

The time when the analysis was completed for the following features is now displayed as Last Analysis, with the date and time when the analysis was completed. An analysis is usually completed every 48 to 52 hours.

Email Notification

Customers can now receive email notifications based upon the following events within Skyline Advisor:

  • Notify when a Skyline Log Assist transfer request has been initiated by VMware Global Support Services (GSS) Technical Support Engineer (TSE).

  • Notify when new features and functionality are made available within Skyline.

  • Notify when a new critical finding has been discovered within the customer environment.

  • Notify when the Skyline Collector root password is about to expire.

The Skyline Advisor user can specify their email notification preferences within the Skyline Advisor Settings page.

ESXi Hosts Managed Directly by vCenter Server

ESXi hosts that are being managed by a vCenter Server, but not within a Cluster, are now visible within Skyline Advisor. Proactive findings and recommendations will now be generated for these ESXi hosts, if applicable. Furthermore, support log bundles for ESXi hosts not within a Cluster can now be transferred to VMware GSS using Skyline Log Assist.

Findings Tooltip

A tooltip for each Finding Severity defining the impact the finding could have on your environment is now available.

Products Linked in Inventory View

The Products Linked column within the Inventory view displays all products integrated with a product. For example, a vCenter Server is integrated with NSX Manager, Horizon Connection Server, and vRealize Operations Manager. All 3 of these object names are displayed within the Products Linked column, for the vCenter Server, within Inventory view.

Improved Filter Capabilities

  • A filter applied to Findings is also applied to the affected objects for a Finding. Now, only affected objects for the filter applied will be shown for the Finding. Previously, all affected objects were shown for a Finding, including those not filtered-on.

  • A filter applied is maintained when returning to the Findings page after viewing a Finding. Previously, a filter would be cleared when returning to the Findings page after viewing a Finding. Now, a user must explicitly clear a filter that has been applied.

Note: Selecting a top-level inventory object, such as a vCenter Server, also selects all sub-level inventory objects, such as Datacenters, Clusters, and ESXi hosts. If you only want to see Findings for the chosen vCenter Server, you must de-select the objects beneath the vCenter Server. For the vCenter Server, de-selecting the Datacenter also de-selects the Cluster(s), and ESXi hosts within that Datacenter.

NSX-V Environment Details

  • NSX-V Object count is now displayed within the Environment section of the Dashboard. The NSX-V object count includes the total number of NSX-V Manager(s), NSX-V Edge(s), and NSX-V Controllers.

Dashboard View

Dashboard View provides an overview of your Skyline deployment. Details provided in Dashboard view include account details, environment details, Collector details, a summary of findings by severity and category, Log Assist history, open Support Requests, and updates/resources. The Dashboard view replaces the previous Home view within Skyline Advisor.

Environment details within the new Dashboard view now include Horizon and vRealize Operations Manager details.

Display all Open Support Requests

Customers can see all their open Support Requests in the Skyline Advisor Dashboard view.

New Solution Tags

VCF and VCF-VxRail solution tags are now displayed within the Inventory view. These Solution Tags will appear if a customer has deployed a VCF, VCF-VxRail, and/or VVD-VxRail integrated solution within their environment. The version of VxRail deployed will now also appear within Inventory view for ESXi hypervisor hosts that are part of a VxRail integrated solution.

New vSphere Proactive Findings

10 new Proactive Findings for vSphere have been added.

  • 7 of the new Proactive Findings identify potential issues within your environment.

  • 2 of the new Proactive Findings identify the Microarchitectural Data Sampling (MDS) vulnerabilities (CVE-2018-12126, CVE-2018-12127, CVE-2018-2130, and CVE-2019-1091).

  • 1 of the new Proactive Findings identifies out-of-bounds read and use-after-free vulnerabilities, as documented in VMSA-2019-09.

Enhanced Search Capabilities

We have made it easy to search by the name of the object in the Inventory, Findings, and Log Assist pages by introducing a new Search text box. You can now search for any Inventory object to quickly filter a particular object or objects. Objects that contain the searched "text" will be returned in your search, highlighted in yellow.

Other Enhancements

  • The Feedback button has been re-located to the right-side of the Skyline Advisor window, next to the In-Product Support button. The previous location of the Feedback button hid information displayed within Skyline Advisor.

Configuration Findings Now Available to Production Support Customers

Production Support customers will now receive findings and recommendations based upon a configuration that could potentially impact stability and reliability. The Configuration Finding recommendation will align with a VMware Validated Design decision.

InActivity Notifications

If a customer has not logged into Skyline Advisor for 30 days or more, the customer will receive an email notification encouraging them to log in to Skyline Advisor and view their current proactive findings and recommendations.

Inventory Enhancements

Inventory now includes Horizon and vRealize Operations (vROps) inventory details. For Horizon, you can view the version, build, and Pod for deployed Horizon Connection Servers. For vRealize Operations, you can view the version and build of vRealize Operations Manager appliances.

Filter Enhancements

Customers can now filter by Patch / Upgrade, Configuration, and or Troubleshooting finding type.

Log Assist Enhancements

Enhanced Log Assist user interface that now includes the following:

  • Check to ensure the user account used to add the product endpoint to the Skyline Collector as the required privileges required to perform a log transfer using Skyline Log Assist.

  • Ability to validate required user account privileges to perform a log transfer using Skyline Log Assist.

  • Check to ensure the ESXi host from which you are initiating a log transfer request is Connected to the vCenter Server.

Other Enhancements

  • Ability to re-size the left-hand side panel on Findings and Log Assist pages for a greater view of complex and nested inventory.

  • Improved message handling when logging into Skyline Advisor.

Proactive Support for Horizon View and vRealize Operations Manager

In addition to vSphere, vSAN, and NSX, Skyline will now surface Proactive Findings for Horizon View and vRealize Operations Manager within Skyline Advisor, giving customers the ability to improve stability, reliability, and security across their Software-Defined Data Centers and Virtual Desktop environments.

Inventory View

Customers can view a consolidated listing of their vSphere, vSAN, and NSX infrastructure, as well as deployment identification for Dell VxRail and VMware, Validated Designs (VVD). The identification and tagging of VxRail and VVD deployments will help customers and VMware Technical Support to better understand and support multi-product solutions.

Mute Findings and Objects

Customers can mute (hide) specific inventory objects and Proactive Findings that they want to delay remediation of for a period of time. They can unmute Muted Findings and objects at any time.

Consolidated Operational Summary Report (OSR) for Premier Services customers

Based on customer and employee feedback, a consolidated. ZIP file is now available for Premier Services customers from the OSR Library in Skyline Advisor. The. ZIP file contains the Operational Summary Report (OSR) along with a CSV for every Proactive Finding. Included within each CSV are details of the finding, the risk if not remediated, recommendations, and a list of all affected objects.

Log Assist Enhancement

Customers and VMware Technical Support Engineers can now search for objects in Log Assist based on the object names. This will assist in speeding up the Log Assist request process in large, complex environments.

Detailed Proactive Finding Information

Customers can now bulk-export proactive finding details to assist with remediation. The details of each proactive finding, in CSV format, can be used by customers to perform automated and orchestrated remediation of potential issues identified by Skyline.

Skyline Advisor Log Assist

Skyline Log Assist is now available within Skyline Advisor. Skyline Log Assist is an additional tab within Skyline Advisor, next to Account Details, Proactive Findings, and OSR Library (Premier Services Only). Skyline Log Assist enables the customer to initiate the process of a support log bundle transfer to VMware Global Support Services for the purposes of troubleshooting an open Support Request. Additionally, VMware Technical Support Engineers (TSEs) now have the ability to request logs from objects within your environment. A request from a Technical Support Engineer to the customer requires customer approval before the log upload process begins.

Initiate Log Transfer

The Initiate Log Transfer tab allows for the following:

  1. Select which object, or objects, within the vCenter Server Inventory to initiate log transfer from.

  2. Select an open Support Request to attach the logs to for review by VMware Global Support Services (GSS).

  3. Initiate Log Transfer to VMware.

Customers will receive an email notification when a VMware Technical Support Engineer (TSE) requests a support log bundle. The VMware TSE will receive a notification when the customer approves or denies the support log bundle request. The VMware TSE will receive a final notification once the support log bundle is available for review.

Log Library

The Log Library tab allows you to review current and previous log transfer activity. Details about each log request include:

  • Name

  • Initiated Time/Date

  • Associated Support Request (SR)

  • Initiated By

  • Actioned By

  • Last Updated

  • Status

Skyline Advisor Proactive Findings

Navigation

A navigation pane is now available on the left-hand side of the Skyline Advisor page when viewing proactive findings, and when using Log Assist. This navigation is very similar to that of the vCenter Server and will allow you to focus on all proactive findings for a particular object, or objects. Also, the navigation will be used to select an object, or objects, within Skyline Log Assist for the purpose of uploading logs to VMware for the purposes of technical support.

Filter

The ability to filter proactive findings and recommendations by Object, Severity, Category is now available within the Navigation pane located on the left-hand side of Skyline Advisor.

Account Details

The Skyline Advisor Account Details page provides you the following information: 

  • Account ID 

  • Number of registered Skyline Collectors. 

  • Total number of vCenter Servers added to VMware Skyline.

  • Total number of ESXi Hosts added to VMware Skyline.

  • Total number of Virtual Machines added to VMware Skyline.

  • The amount of time lapsed since product usage data was analysed by VMware Skyline, for the purposes of updating proactive findings and recommendations. 

  • The time when product usage data will be analyzed next by VMware Skyline, for the purposes of updating proactive findings and recommendations. 

  • All Skyline Collectors configured within the customer's environment, including Collector ID, Collector Name, Version, Status and Last Activity. 

  • Expanding each Skyline Collector within the Account Details page displays each vCenter Server and/or NSX Manager added to that particular Skyline Collector. Expanding the vCenter Server or NSX Manager displays inventory details. 

Proactive Findings 

The Skyline Advisor Proactive Findings page provides you the following information: 

  • A breakdown of the number of proactive findings, based on the level of severity. Severity levels include Critical, Moderate, and Trivial. 

  • A breakdown of the number of proactive findings, based on the category. Categories include Compute, Network, Security, and Storage. 

  • Each proactive finding is displayed, either in card view (default) or list view. Clicking a proactive finding displays more detail about the finding, including: ​

    • Finding ID: A unique ID that can be used to ask questions and search for more information related to that particular finding.

    • Date Found: When the finding was discovered within the customer's environment. 

    • Severity: Critical, Moderate, or Trivial. 

    • Description: Provides information on the potential issue discovered within the customer's environment. 

    • Recommendations: Provides information on how to remediate the potential issue within the customer's environment. Recommendations can reference a VMware Knowledge Base article, Best Practice, Security Advisory, or other official VMware article, document, or whitepaper. 

    • Affected Objects: The individual objects that could be impacted by the potential issue. Customers can view the affected objects either within the same page, or export the affected objects to a CSV file for use in configuration management tools. A Search bar provides the ability to search for a particular object within the proactive finding.   

Search and Filter capabilities are available. This includes the ability to search for a specific proactive finding or description, or filter proactive findings based upon the severity level, category, or source/object name. 

OSR Library 

The Skyline Advisor OSR Library page is available only to Premier Services customers. Production Support customers will access all of their proactive findings within the Skyline Advisor Proactive Findings page. Operational Summary Reports will continue to be generated for Premier Services customers. These Operational Summary Reports will contain advanced proactive findings only, which may require additional troubleshooting or assistance from a Premier Services Technical Support Engineer.   

The Skyline Advisor OSR Library page provides you the following information: 

  • Operational Summary Report Name. 

  • The Operational Summary Report created date. 

  • The Operational Summary Report type, either standard or custom.

  • Standard Operational Summary Reports are automatically created by VMware Skyline. They are created on a scheduled basis and automatically populated within the OSR Library. 

  • Custom Operational Summary Reports are created by the Premier Services Support Account Manager (SAM), Support Account Engineer (SAE), or other customer-supporting roles. An example of a custom Operational Summary Report could include all Critical severity proactive findings, within the Network category. 

  • The ability to Download Operational Summary Reports (OSR).   

Filter capabilities are available. Customers can filter available Operational Summary Reports based upon the date created, and report type (standard/custom).
